Today's field trip is to the Free Rice site. This has been going around e-mails and forums for a while, but in case some of you out there haven't seen it, I wanted to mention it.

You don't have to register for anything, and you won't get any spam. It's simply a vocabulary test, with grains of rice being donated to charities for every correct answer. The site earns the money to make the donations by banner ads that flash on every word page, so the more you get right, the more advertisers are happy, and the more rice is donated. Simple? It is. And it's deceptively addicting.

I love this site! I go there and kill time between classes all the time.

I love that site!

I should stop playing on it and finish my paper on The Spanish Tragedy now.

Thank you so much for linking to that site. I've been before, but I forget about it, and it's so easy to stop by, play a few minutes (or longer) and do a small amount of good. A better use of procrastination time than online sudoku!

Oh, that site's fabulous. It was my best friend when I was studying for the GREs earlier this year.

I have it saved on my toolbar and now am saving my score. I'm well into the 20,000s grains of rice but I haven't hit that elusive 50. I'm hovering between 46-49. Sigh.
