I much appreciate all the warm fuzzies, not to mention the kind comments about the book itself. I’m so tickled it’s finally out and I can talk about it, since I love and adore the dragons, and am having more fun with them than I can possibly explain. I’m just thrilled that May is now out there starting to tell her story, and that Gabriel is getting his time in the sun. So to speak.

Today I really, really, really need to get cracking on the next vamp book, which will follow Zen and the Art of Vampires. I’m still waiting to hear from my editor about Zen, however, and that’s causing me to drag my feet a bit. I’d hate to start writing this beast only to find out my editor objected to some thread in the first book. I don’t think she’s likely to, but hey, I’m Irish–we worry a lot. It’s our job, and dammit, we do it well.

Whilst I am off worrying and angsting, and trying to wake my muse up and get her back to work, here’s a hump day question for you all: what’s your current favorite breakfast food?

Hurrah for Gabriel finally having his turn in the limelight.

I just sent out the official release newsletter (which you can find online if you haven't subscribed to the newsletter, although I have to raise an eyebrow at the very idea of not subscribing), so now the official "waiting to see how it will do on the bestseller lists" angsting can begin. That's opposed to the unofficial angsting, which is a general state of affairs here at Rancho Doghair.

Given that the book has been out early at some bookstores - causing much rending of clothing, general wailing, and muttered dark threats - I assume that the pre-release sales will significantly lessen the impact it will have on the bestseller lists. And while it's true that the lists are really only ego fodder (although the marketing folk like good hits, since they use them to get the big book buying accounts excited about subsequent releases), it has made for a frustrating few weeks here while the publisher tried to figure out just why the book was being sold ahead of time.
Regardless of all that, it's pub day, and that's always a time of celebration. In recognition of this event, I hereby give you leave to celebrate all day. And share your good news, too - because what's a celebration without good news?

Today, after dealing with some of the reader snail mails which have been collecting in a large wicker basket I use for just such a purpose, I decided, being all virtuous 'n stuff, to do a Pick Katie's Brain session and answer some reader questions which you folk have so kindly sent me. I toyed with the idea of even making a podcast out of it, such was my mood.

Imagine my distress when I went to load up my folder of PKB questions, and found that the whole damned thing was gone. Somehow, somewhere, at some time, an evil fairy logged onto my computer and deleted that folder, because it's sure as shootin' gone, and I don't remember doing it.

This, then, is a call for another round of Pick Katie's Brain questions. You can repeat prior ones you sent in if I never got to it, or you can come up with all new fabulous Things You Want Katie to Answer. As before, I retain the right to gently set aside any questions which deal with subjects covered in upcoming books, which might give away plot points, or which are clearly intended to show my ignorance of all things quantum physics (I distinctly remember attending quantum physics classes when I went to my local university, but I'll be damned if I can remember much from them).

You may either post questions here, or e-mail them to me. If you do the latter, please put some sort of an indicator in the subject line that it's a Pick Katie's Brain question, else it'll get stuck in the E-Mail Queue of Hell.

And speaking of that, I'm off to beat my way through the e-mail queue (now at October 2007!) since I am positively glowing with righteousness.

Looking past my slacker ways, let's focus on something good.

My good news is that I may have something to announce soon about the Ben and Fran books. Although it might not be quite what everyone is expecting.

Other than that, I got my taxes done, and am almost through the latest batch of reader letters requesting goodies and such. Yay for reclaiming my dining room table again!

Your turn to belly up to the bar with good news.

Your question today: do you feel you are creative, and if so, in what capacity?

I ask this because although I feel I have literary creativity, I sure seem to lack it in other artistic senses. My mother and my sister both paint (you can see some of my sister’s works online), but although I used to dabble in art eons ago, I haven’t so much as even glanced at a paintbrush in at least twenty years.

I guess we just have to go with what we’re good at. Or at least what we’re comfortable doing, which for me means indulging in my warped sense of humor.

Quite possibly something involving large quantities of chocolate, money, and well-oiled men, but we won't go into specifics here.

My good news for the week is that I'm indulging myself while I slave over hot copy edits. It was only by a dint of superhuman abilities that I managed to get some into my mouth.

Thank you all for the good wishes regarding Migraine From Hell. I am pleased (and very relieved) to say that after a nap and a second application of ibuprofen, it faded away to nothingness, leaving my brain to feel as if it had just suffered through a lengthy battle. I don’t often get migraines (for which I’m intensely grateful), but the few that I get are enough to stir my utmost sympathy for those of you who do.

And now for your hump day question, based on my recent experience: do you have slapstick days, and if so, what did you do in your most recent one?
